i ran a half-marathon (13.2 miles) yesterday!!
my man, the kids, my sister-in-law and mother-in-law came out to cheer me on in the last mile before the finish line. here's a not so flattering photo but it captures the moment and my accomplishment!
my running history has been pretty unimpressive- i ran short distances off and on for years and hated it. i have never been one to push myself physically. but recently 2 people (and the fact that 40 is on the horizon!!) have inspired me to challenge myself:
Terry Fox (if you don't know who he is, I have written about him before here)
and my father-in-law
my father-in-law didn't start running until he was almost 60, but he, along with my sister-in-law, ran the Chicago Marathon last weekend. thanks Brucie for providing the inspiration and the idea, and thanks to you and Carla for the support!!
training for this race (my first ever) was a steep curve for me. when i started, i had only run more than a few miles a handful of times. (i used this training plan if you're interested) i stuck with it and had no trouble finishing- i even ran my fastest in the last mile. it was even fun although my legs and feet hurt after- and still do today.
here's to inspiration and to doing hard things!!
ps- the photo in the last {this moment} post was Asa running in the all-city finals for cross country (grade 1 boys division- too cute!)
