I was very pleased with how Maxine's cake turned out.
I was inspired by the cake on the cover of this month's Martha Stewart Living, but I had no beehive mold. I used 3 springform pans of different size layers, and carved them into multiple layers, and frosted it with a penuche (brown sugar) icing from the Joy of Cooking. The cake is a honey cake (it was so delicious! I left out the cinnamon- yuck!) from the same magazine, and the bees are marzipan.
