this picture has nothing to do with the following text! I just love it. it's from this month's Martha Stewart Living magazine.
i've been absent from this space for a bit while i was getting sorted around here- i think i'm close!
mini-renovations, boxes sorted, new spaces (almost) organized. and a big life decision has been made- Lee is going to start Grade 2 at our neighbourhood school on Monday.
no more homeschooling for now at least. the past few weeks i have been in turmoil over this decision. he had mentioned at the end of the summer that he might want to try it out, and that he was interested in being with his friends but that he thought he wanted to stay homeschooling.
i have a lot of doubts about the culture of school and the model of our education system, and there are a lot of fantastic and important reasons to homeschool. i still believe. AND YET. i have also been realizing that going to school would be very good for Lee in a lot of ways at this point in his life.
all of these considerations have been swirling around in my brain- neither one seeming to be the perfect option (why can't school be part-time?!) what finally pushed us in the direction of taking this year off from homeschooling is that it will take some pressure off of me. I have been feeling overwhelmed by all the household minutiae and extra parenting duties of late and, honestly, wasn't being the teacher i want to be.
so, a good decision i think, but not an easy one. i am sad to say goodbye to homeschooling for now, but happy and excited for Lee as he starts a new adventure.
