i meant to do this post earlier, but seeing as there is one more day of Passover i guess it's not too late...
here are the desserts i made for our Seder last week.
on the left, your typical Passover sponge cake (basically like an angel food cake but made using the yolks too and matzo meal and potato starch instead of flour.) on the right, is a flourless vegan chocolate torte. my father-in-law is vegan, and it had to be flourless for Passover, so i found this fascinating recipe using pureed black-eyed peas and silken tofu instead of flour and eggs. the verdict: everyone thought it was delicious (and some people had seconds so i'm pretty sure they weren't just being polite) and it didn't taste too 'bean-y'. if you've ever had sweets with red bean paste, it was a similar sort of flavour to that, but chocolate. but i have to say, i prefer my chocolate tortes with lots of eggs and butter.
one of my favourite children's books has some about Passover in it. it's about the friendship between an old Jewish woman and a young black boy. i highly recommend Mrs. Katz and Tush by Patricia Polacco. If you can get through it without having to stop and compose yourself so the kids don't know you're crying, let me know. here's a page from it:
