every year we have a special 'homecoming' weekend on the Island: Gala Weekend.
the August long weekend is launched with the Fire Parade- people carry handmade lanterns through the streets to the sound of the Island Arhythmics percussion ensemble.
here's the beginning of the parade, looking forward
and looking back
we wind through the neighbourhood and gather at the beach. this year there was a show when we got there
and a bonfire waiting to be lit
the car burned to reveal a bike (we love our car-free community)
and the people loved it!
