i am seriously enjoying cake decorating!
our garden was my inspiration for this cake. these lovely poppies
and this weigela shrub
made their way on to the cake in the form of gumpaste flowers
i brushed them with water which gives them a bit of shine (i learned this accidentally on another cake!!)
the cake was 3 square tiers from some pans my mother-in-law gave me that i had never used before. it was a double recipe of White Cake from The 1997 Joy of Cooking (this edition is better than later ones IMO--that cookbook never fails me!!! it has the best baking recipes) I used Seven Minute Frosting because it's pretty and tastes really good. so far it seems that no one really eats the fondant when i've used it- it's just too sweet.
delicious and fun. i'm going to have to find some more people who need me to make them a birthday cake...
